Goldie Lyons is a mixed media artist born in the United States. Having lived all over the country, as well as globally he claims no one place as home, though he is currently based in Idaho, USA.

Goldie’s work uses a multidisciplinary approach that includes painting/drawing/collage digital/sculpture/installation/music & video.  

He is best known for creating semi-conceptual abstracts exploring various aspects of Self Realization, Philosophy & Metaphysics, with a focus on delivering a unique and personal experience for the viewer.

Artist Statement

In creating the recent work of mixed media paintings, I employ a range of standard as well as unique and unconventional techniques, processes and tools in conjunction with various mediums.

Layering, scratching and varnishing with thick and thin applications of material that often include a mix of glazing, impasto and collages of additional paintings and prints, are some of the techniques utilized in the process.

For tools, in addition to brushes and palette knives of various shapes and sizes, Squeegees, scrapers, skewers and kitchen utensils are used with the mediums of acrylic, wax, graphite, ink, oil, metal & various gemstones. These materials are applied on 1.5 inch/3.8 centimeter depth gallery wrapped canvas or alternatively paper, with many of the pieces displayed in minimalist wood or black composited floating frames.

My process involves the use of an intuitive meditation method to produce a type of reverie to make work that often explores themes of the numinous world, the nature and transformation of reality, energy, pattern recognition & the deep unconscious mind.

Everything from the selection of colors & tools, to the naming of each piece, is accomplished through an internal communication in an altered state.

The work is inspired by a desire to comprehend or obtain and share “Gnosis” or “knowing” in a way that is both meaningful and valuable to myself as well as the observer, through the directed intention of consciousness, whereby the observer may find what they need, in addition to, and even regardless of the artistic intention put forth.

My work is the culmination of my experiences with some of the many paths to acquire higher or altered states of awareness that have been claimed in various historical and cultural traditions throughout time.

Rather than approach the topic from a particular worldview, my latest work instead focuses on the many shared experiences of wisdom seekers, accepting the experiences at face value without explanation and looking for the relatable common ground, simply in the experience itself.

I explore these things in my ongoing series Meta Mystic. The name given to this most recent body of paintings, which focuses on aspects of the Self Realization process within consciousness.

Operating from an energetic expressional perspective, the works are specifically designed to bypass the conscious mind and open the plane of the unconscious mind.

This allows for my work to function as map and mirror to the observer who is attuned to either or both.

Whether the altered state of creation or observation and the associated experience is objectively spiritual or scientific, is not the point of these works. Rather these states and experiences are known to be, at the least, subjectively very real and treated within the work on its own terms.
